The quality of digital camera prints relies mostly on different things. Starting with the digital camera itself, pixel, white balance, DPI and PPI and everything that affect digital camera prints.
If you decide to buy a digital camera, there are lots of digital camera stores offering them at a discount. However, be sure to buy only from reputable stores and preferably made by quality manufacturers. Your camera will be the initial basis of your digital camera prints.
Let’s get a closer look at digital elements like the pixel. Pixel is a word abbreviation for Picture Element. Although digital camera prints are almost similar to ordinary photographs, they are but tiny squares. These tiny squares called pixel has numerical value from 0 to 255 with red, green and blue color channels. You can get over sixteen million potential combinations which will produce different colors in digital camera prints under this scheme.
This scheme can be related to a computer byte with 8-bit number where the color of the individual pixel is defined by the three color bytes. Through the use of computers, bit values will produce different color images in digital camera prints. In relation to this, manufacturers classify their digital cameras according to pixel count. Pixel count of digital cameras ranges from one million (1 Megapixel or 1 MP) to fourteen (14 Megapixels or 14 MP). The popular edition of digital camera is from 2MP for 4”X6” digital camera prints to 5MP for 8”X10” digital camera prints.
White balance pertains to the automatic setting of a digital camera to suit your light source. Under ordinary camera film, daylight film appears very yellow in tungsten light. Tungsten film will be very blue in daylight. These conditions have been resolved by digital cameras since there are settings for tungsten lighting, sunlight, fluorescent lighting, electronic flash and shade. Through this technology, white will really look white and not yellow or blue.
Dpi means “dots per inch” which is the characteristic of the printer and not digital image. Dpi controls the quality of prints depending upon the fine spacing of droplets of ink.
PPI is “pixels per inch” which is mostly used in printing. The quality of PPI depends upon the size of the digital print. To get higher quality images, the print size should be smaller. For example, a 200 PPI can give you a print of 4” wide by 3” high. To some, the highest number is 320 PPI but normal usage is only around 240 PPI, more or less.
With all these basic information, you now have an idea as to what features to look to ensure your digital camera will produce quality digital camera prints.
